This has been a great activity to review decimals before vacation and it kept the students busy. I wasn’t sure my students would be able to draw because many of my students have OT issues so I enlarged and they cut and pasted the houses. This worked out really good.

This was perfect for math class right before winter break. This aligned with my curriculum right around Christmas break and my students really enjoyed the change of pace. I let them complete it as group work and many of them chose to continue the activity even after class was over.

My students LOVED this activity. Not only were they able to continue practicing their math skills, they also learned new tech skills that they have been using non stop since doing this activity (copy, paste, rotating, duplicating, etc.).

While this is a fun activity in theory the worksheet set up and design is NOT user/student friendly. This made it really frustrating for my students when they were trying to solve the problems.

We used this as a center around Christmas and the kids enjoyed building their own gingerbread houses! My only issue was that the prompts didn’t always make sense with the prices. There were challenges to keep your house under a certain amount of money, but the items were too expensive to even get just the basic frame.

This was a great activity to do before the Christmas break. Afterwards, we had a gingerbread decorating competition to make it even more engaging. My only issue is the problem solving questions. The numbers need to be higher: a roof alone costs over $35 so they would pretty much only have decorations for their house if that was the new budget. I spent time adjusting the problem solving questions before handing them out to increase the value (also did that with the first question and changed it to three hundred dollar bills versus one).

We did a themed “Gingerbread Day” leading up to winter break and this was the perfect fit! This activity showed the kids that it costs money to construct things. They loved being able to design their own house and draw up the cost of it. To add some more fun, I let them take their design and build it with real graham crackers and frosting!
