Your 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students will love learning about biographies and summarizing with these engaging Black History Month reading passages. Create a Black History Month Bulletin Board and connect it to the Famous African American biographies. You’ll have a classroom display of each person that your class is also reading about. Read about one of the famous African Americans, then add them to your classroom bulletin board.
The informational passages provide students with an opportunity to connect social studies and language arts. These articles can be used all year long. Students will learn about the bravery, ingenuity and passion of these Famous African Americans. As they read these biographies, students will work on reading comprehension and summarizing what they read. Students can use their summaries to create a final African American History Yearbook. This is a great activity to complete in February as part of your Black History Month lessons, or any time you are working on biographies or these historical figures.
