Hi, I'm Chloe! I taught 3rd–5th grade math for 11 years, and every resource in this shop was built for real classrooms: low prep, high engagement, and a whole lot of sneaky learning.

Looking for an engaging way to reinforce adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators? This printable fraction game is perfect for students who need extra fraction practice in a fun, low-prep format. Whether you’re working on adding and subtracting fractions or reviewing for a test, this math board game provides the perfect balance of fun and skill-building.

Use this game during math centers, small group instruction, or as a whole group review. It’s a classroom favorite for spiral review, fraction practice, and test prep — and it aligns with 5.NF.A.1. Best of all, students stay focused while playing, and often forget they’re practicing math at all!

What’s Included:

  • Game Directions for Students
  • Teacher Tips for Implementation
  • Adding and Subtracting Fractions with Unlike Denominators Game Board
  • 41 Practice Questions
  • Student Recording Sheet
  • Answer Key

This fraction game is printer-friendly (black ink only!) and easy to prep — just add game pieces and you’re ready to go.

Fraction Skills Covered:

  • Adding fractions
  • Subtracting fractions
  • Creating equivalent fractions
  • Adding fractions with unlike denominators
  • Real-world fraction practice for problem-solving

Ideal for:

  • Math Centers or Stations
  • Early Finisher Activities
  • Spiral Review
  • Whole Group Practice
  • Test Prep
  • Sub Plans
  • At-Home Fraction Practice

Whether you’re teaching adding fractions or adding in fraction games for extra practice throughout the year, this is a go-to resource for keeping students engaged and accountable.

Tips for Playing this Math Game:

  • Model gameplay before sending students off in small groups.
  • Use everyday items as game pieces (pencil erasers, paperclips, etc.).
  • Encourage collaborative problem-solving by having all players solve each question.
  • Create small groups of 2–4 to maximize focus and participation.
  • Show students how to compare and discuss answers. Did you both get the same answer? If students get different answers, ask them to solve the problem using a different strategy or help coach each other through the problem.
  • Emphasize that the game is about fraction practice, not just winning.

Do your students need math practice? Students will be playing a game and will often forget that they are even practicing math skills! Research shows that challenge-based gamification in the classroom leads to an increase of 34.755% in student performance (ScienceDirect, 2020).

If you have not taught adding and subtracting mixed numbers yet, then this is not the resource for you. It read like it was just fractions, but when I bought it and opened it, it was mixed numbers as well. Since I had not taught them that yet, I had to go find and buy another resource and save this one for another time. I already had a mixed number addition and subtraction review so buying this didn’t help me.
However, if you have taught mixed numbers, then this seems like it would be a fun game.

This resource really supported my students during their RTI grouping, it was so helpful to organize groups base on the standard. More so, students had more practice time, based on a math standard that was challenging for them. Students were so engaged that it was hard to transition to another activity. The math activity reinforced concepts learned on this standard and the activity was engaging. More so, students learned to collaborate and compete with each other in a mature way.
