It’s October, and Halloween is right around the corner. Why do kids always seem to be on a sugar high at 8 am and weeks before trick or treating even started in October? It’s hard to get them focused and wanting to learn. They seem only to be able to focus on three things candy, costumes, and staying up late.

So when you are writing up those lesson plans, stop and think. What are some Halloween activities you can incorporate that are still educational and fun?
5 Halloween Activities for Elementary Students
So, you are looking for some classroom Halloween party ideas? They can sometimes become full of candy, juice, and cupcakes. We all know how that combo can cause a sugar high and chaos. So why not look for some other ways to celebrate Halloween that are both fun and educational? These Halloween activities for elementary students are the perfect combo of both!
1. Halloween Themed Science
When looking for Halloween activities for elementary students who are older. Like 4th and 5th grade. It can be kind of challenging. These spooky science experiments are not only super fun but super educational and will get your students learning even when they are vibrating with excitement for Halloween. Each of these experiments is easy to prep, and most materials can be found around the classroom or bought at the dollar store. Making it super inexpensive! Here are two example experiments.
Balloon Ghost
Using the classic vinegar and baking soda chemical reaction, have your students work together to inflate their ghost balloon. Then they record their findings and answer the questions given!
Pumpkin Candy Towers
Everyone loves the idea of candy corn and candy pumpkin, but no one ever actually eats it! So, use it instead to see which team can create the tallest tower! An engaging STEAM activity that is a perfect way to let your students play with their food. PS. you can totally let them eat a couple of fresh pieces at the end.
