Teaching plant and animal physical adaptations and looking for engaging texts and hands-on activities? This is an entire low-prep lesson all about physical adaptations, perfect for upper elementary students!
This lesson includes a “Physical Adaptations” reading passage. After students read the informational text, they’ll fill in the table with definitions, notes, and examples of each type of physical adaptations. Next, students will complete the Physical Adaptations Activity, where they’ll describe the physical adaptations of each plant or animal on the worksheet.

Physical Adaptations Activity: Students will describe the physical adaptations of each plant or animal.

Design Your Own Organism: Students will design your own imaginary plant or animal. It must have at least 3 physical adaptations. Draw your creation and label each adaptation. Be sure to explain how each adaptation helps the organism survive.

Exit Slip: Students will answer the question to complete the exit slip.
